A step-by-step online programme that helps owners assess the building fabric precisely, draw up reliable schedules and financing plans and select contractors professionally. This way you are well prepared and hand your project over to the construction phase with maximum certainty.
You have found your dream period building — the renovation shouldn’t become an incalculable risk.
Where you are now
- You spend nights in forums piecing together risky half-knowledge instead of following a clear construction plan.
- You constantly worry about hidden costs and additional claims because you lack a reliable contingency reserve.
- You face confusing contractor quotes and can’t tell who is technically competent and charges fair prices.
- You already feel overwhelmed in the preparation phase and are afraid of losing control when awarding contracts.
Where this takes you
- A precise building survey and a clear schedule that prevents costly delays and building damage.
- Financial certainty through accurate budgeting, sensible reserves and subsidies used to the full.
- The ability to compare quotes like a professional and talk to contractors and surveyors as an equal.
- The quiet confidence of knowing, thanks to the Alarm Code, exactly when to bring in outside help during construction — before a problem becomes really expensive.
Seven modules that turn an uncertain buyer into a confident client.
The precise building survey
Learn how to assess the fabric of your period building correctly — from the legal check and the structural and hazardous-materials check to choosing the right surveyor. This way you avoid expensive surprises after the purchase.
Planning with structural clarity
Develop a realistic room concept and assess your own contribution honestly. Make informed decisions on “living on site versus moving out” to save nerves and resources from the start.
The energy concept as a guide rail
Understand the key requirements of the German Building Energy Act (GEG) and make the most of an energy consultant’s expertise. This makes your energy roadmap future-proof and economical.
Budget, reserves & financial certainty
Calculate your construction costs watertight. Learn how to plan realistic contingency reserves and understand how subsidies work to secure the greatest financial advantage.
The construction schedule in the right sequence
Avoid later delays and building damage caused by poor timing. Learn the exact sequence of the trades and create a schedule that forms a watertight basis for smooth progress.
Choosing contractors professionally
Read cost estimates like a professional and compare them on a sound technical basis. This way you separate the wheat from the chaff and find reliable partners to carry out your project.
The Alarm Code for critical decisions
The traffic-light system for preparing your project: recognise the five most important warning signs in surveys or quotes immediately and learn when to bring in outside support before you sign contracts.
I am Thomas Tergan.
I show you how to renovate your period building without losing your nerve or blowing your budget.
In my many years of practice as an engineer I have seen countless times how dream projects turned into nightmares. Motivated buyers despaired over hidden defects, cost explosions and unreliable contractors because they lacked a practical compass. It quickly became clear to me: renovating a period building doesn’t take luck, it takes a clear system.
That is why I have poured my practical knowledge from many construction sites into the Renovation Code. I have supported many projects and seen exactly what works and what fails. I have condensed this knowledge into a proven roadmap — a genuine step-by-step guide for the decisive phase before construction begins.
Everything included in the Renovation Code.

What outside support costs you.
Independent construction supervisors and building surveyors usually charge one to three percent of the total construction sum. For a renovation of 150,000 euros, that alone amounts to 1,500 to 4,500 euros — just for supervision, without any construction work.
The Renovation Code gives you the complete planning knowledge, the renovation calculator, the quote comparison tool and all seven modules once, for a fraction of that.

If the Alarm Code goes off, I step in personally.
The Renovation Code takes you independently through planning, tendering and contract award — that is what it is built for. Module 07 also gives you the Alarm Code: five signals that show when an outside view pays off.
If one of them goes off on your site, you don’t have to search for someone to ask. You book a one-to-one consultation directly with me: we look at your specific issue — survey, quote or an acute situation on site — and agree on the next steps.
Booked separately, not included in the course price. You only pay if you actually need the consultation.
Request a one-to-one consultation →Typical occasions
- An additional claim is on the table and you can’t judge technically whether it is justified.
- A survey or quote should be checked once more before signing — by someone who doesn’t earn anything from it.
- Two trades are blocking each other and the schedule is slipping.
- A building element turns out differently than planned when opened up, and the decision has to be made this week.
Questions before you enrol
Which language is the course in?
The videos, checklists and templates are in German, and so is the checkout on our course platform. If you are unsure whether your German is sufficient, watch the free preview lesson before buying.
I’m just starting out — is this too advanced for me?
Not at all. The course meets you exactly where you are: shortly before or after buying your period building. We start with the absolute basics of the building survey. You need no manual skills and no technical jargon. The programme translates the complex world of construction into clear steps that laypeople can follow.
How much time do I need per week?
You set the pace entirely yourself. You can work through the seven modules in one weekend or watch them step by step alongside your construction progress. Since you have access for at least three years, the course adapts flexibly to your everyday life and your schedule.
What if it doesn’t work for my particular project?
Every period building is unique, but the basic rules of a successful renovation — how to secure budgets, check contractors and sequence construction phases — apply universally. The system is based on proven construction standards that apply to every building. And if you get stuck on a very specific problem in your planning or tendering phase, you are not alone: through expert support by email we will find the right next step for your situation together.
How long do I have access?
You have access to all video modules, checklists, templates and future updates for at least 36 months. Renovating a period building requires excellent preparation. That is why the course remains a reliable reference throughout your entire planning and tendering phase.
Do you offer support if I get stuck?
For all questions about logging in, the platform or the course materials, our technical email support will help you quickly and easily. The course is designed so that you can prepare and tender your renovation independently and safely.
Once construction is under way, the Alarm Code uses five clear signals to show you when a problem — such as an additional claim, a delay or a dispute between two trades — has reached the point where an outside view pays off. For exactly this purpose you can book an exclusive one-to-one consultation with me at any time. We look at your specific issue — whether survey, quotes or an acute situation on site — and agree on the next steps together. This consultation is booked separately and is not included in the course price.
